Williamsburg vacation 2013...Ferrell family reunion!

Our trip to Williamsburg, Virginia 2013

Day one: we headed out on our journey at 8:30 and arrived in Williamsburg with only two stops and a few slow spots on the highway. Of course we always forget things and this time we forgot two major things...don forgot extra insulin and I forgot the CAMERA!!! How could that ever happen we have no idea but it did and we are making do. Don has enough insulin to hopefully get by with just lantis and what he has left and as for pics we will have to settle with the images we are able to capture on the iPhone 5.
Almost there... The last road before we reach our destination... Route 64! Wahoo!

Day two:
Today we spent 7 hours in Colonial Williamsburg trying to see everything we could possibly see in one day. We never made it to the art museums but our plan is to come back around Christmas time and see the things we missed. The kids loved all the colonial costumes and historic sites. Their favorite things were the drums, the whistle, and the guns!!

When we got our tickets the kids couldn't wait to get their maps punched at specific sites. After you got 5 punches you received special pins. Our first stop was the colonial gardens where Connor and Mara got to pull up a bucket of water from the well and fill it into the holding tank. We saw beautiful flowers and tons of vegetables, fruits and herbs growing in the garden.

After the gardens we visited the blacksmith and watched them make nails and other metals out of pounding iron with the heat from the fire.

We listened to the 1776 deceleration of independence being read at the capital building, we visited the jail and the entrapment camps and then took a break for lunch at the Kings Arms Tavern.
Lunch was really good, the kids had Mac and cheese and soup and everyone else ate delicious crab cake sandwiches.

This is a picture of one of the five jail cells in Williamsburg where at one time it housed about 75 inmates so think about 15 men were in this one small cell.

After a really fun and historic day we ended our tour of colonial Williamsburg with the Fife and Drums parade. Connor said when we got out of the car this morning that this was the worst trip we ever took and by the end of the day he said "this was the best trip we ever took"
Gotta love kids!!!

samara running full speed ahead to catch up with the kids marching in the Fife and Drum parade! She is a speedy one I tell you!!

Meggie eating cheezits and playing with her new colonial doll, "Betsy" while her brother and sister match! She did a lot of snacking while we were waiting around today!!

And finally the reason for this trip!!
The reunion!

Day three: Busch gardens

Let the fun Begin...
We arrived at Busch Gardens around 10:30 am and stayed basically all day even between the two closures for potential impending storms that weren't even on the Radar(strangest thing ever... Not a cloud in the sky but rides stopped twice everywhere in the park except in Elmo's world). We made it until almost 7pm and got to ride just about everything we could that the kids could get on due to the height restrictments! Connors favorite rides were the Lochness Monster, the Log flume and the kiddie coaster! Mara loved the boat whirl in Elmo's land and Meggies favorite was the carousel and the splash zone!

The relaxing train ride... Can't believe meg is going on two days without a nap! She's a fighter for staying awake all day but totally crashed at 8 pm!

We were standing in the shade during one of the park shut downs and this big family of people walk by with a ton of giant stiffed animals and basketballs they won at the arcade and out of nowhere the one guy just flips Connor a ball and says nothing! There really are still good people out there in the world today. I gave a nice family with two girls hair ties because the girls had super long hair and were saying how they wish they wore a pony and I offered them my extras and they were so happy so I guess the saying holds true, "what goes along comes along"! Connor was ecstatic to get that basketball!!
Mommy and Daddy in front of the big "cokoo" clock before heading to
Oktoberfest for lunch and engorging in the biggest corned beef sandwich I ever had in my life! It was called the Mile High Corned Beef Sandwich.

Family members insisting, surely there are some chowing opportunities at Busch Gardens that won't horrify? I know there are some good choices outside the grounds, but I am not going to be in control of this situation, will undoubtedly end up HAVING to eat THE Food THERE!!
After lunch Connor, Mara and daddy went in the haunted darkness castle and then Connor went on Lochness again while I took meg to the dragon zone for some water fun!

After the park started rides again for the second time it was so empty that Connor went on the log flume three times in a row... Twice with don and once with me.
He even rode the kiddie coaster seven times in a row!

Getting soaked over and over again was the perfect end to a perfect day at Busch Gardens!

Day 4: saying goodbye
All the kids were saying goodbye to eachother and little Meggie just wanted to hide in the corner. :(

Connor loved spending time with Luke and the entire ride home he wanted to know why we can't see him more! They really have a lot in common and were so glad to see eachother again.

The Ferrell family:

The newest addition: baby Adler ( Mara loves him to pieces)

Samara took this photo while she was holding him and she captured simplicity in a child's eyes!

The Williams family:

Thanks so much Aunt Judy for putting together such a great reunion and a lot of fun exploring Williamsburg and Busch garden! The kids loved being together playing in the pool, being goofy in the dining hall and exercising in the weight room! Until next time....we love you all!
