Our Vacation to Bermuda...What a Beautiful Place...

Our trip to Bermuda was just amazing. Everthing about the Island is breathtaking. I don't even know where to start to tell you all about how great our trip was and how much fun we had together. We decided to go to Bermuda on our Honeymoon five years ago while we were sitting on the beach in Hawaii taking in all the beautiful sights around us. Knowingly that we were going to be expecting our first child with in the next year we were looking into the future and planning where we would spend our fifth anniversary. Don had wanted to go to Bermuda on our Honeymoon but because my parents were letting us use the timeshare in Hawaii we couldn't pass up the vacation of a lifetime and decided that we would get to Bermuda someday. It is unbeleivable that a place so prestine is only a 2 hour flight away from Philadelphia. As you are coming in for landing all you see is clear blue water surrounded on all sides of the airplane and then suddenly you are in pure paradise. So before our honeymoon I came across an article about a very unique and quaint place to stay in Bermuda and thought yes that is the place I will book five years from now, little did I know I had to book it in four years because it books a year or two in advance depending on which cottage you choose. So last June I gave a ring and we got lucky and were booked in the tower room which has windows on all four sides of the room overlooking the water on all sides with a balcony. We decided that five days away from the kids would be very hard, but enough to get in a great vacation and much needed alone time. Alas, pregnant again on a getaway vacation it was still  one of the greatest times we have had together and brought back all the memories of Hawaii and how much we really do love one another. We all know times can get tough when you are going through a lot at once and being pregnant, selling our house, buying a house, starting a new job, two kids....well I think that is enough for putting just a little bit of stress on a relationship. From the moment we got in the airport to leave to the every minute of our vacation we just had a blast and that's what best friends are made for.

The Salt Kettle House
This is where Don and I stayed or basically just slept because we were out from 9 am till 9 or 10 pm every single day. We spent the mornings in the dining room eating breakfast and then would head out to catch the ferry and begin our day of exploring, ferry hopping, bus riding, beach laying, wave catching, rock climbing, you name it...we were doing it!  So by looking at the picture you can see our room at the top which was the "Tower" and our balcony. Hazel Lowe is the owner of this secret hideaway in Bermuda. You just can't beat the hospitality and the prices of staying at Salt Kettle. We stayed four nights here at the price it would have cost us to stay one night at the SouthHampton Princess and that included our wonderful breakfast every morning with great conversation and wonderful people.

                                                    Restaurants We Visited
We mostly stuck to the pub restuarants and skipped the fine dining. It was more fun not having to get all dressed up and we didn't want to miss quality beach and sight seeing time. We ate plenty of burgers, yummy fish sandwiches, tons of french fries, and salads. We went to the famous swizzle inn which is known for the rum swizzle drinks that leave you swaggerring out, but just had shirley temples and skipped the rum. All the tables at the swizzle have names carved into the tables so we left our mark in hopes that it will be there one day when we return in years to come. Other restaurants that we enjoyed but didn't take pictures of where the Hog Penny, Frog and Onion at the Dockyard, The Pickled Onion(the best salad I ever had), and the great Italian place called La Trattoria where we had delicious mussles and the best pizza that we ever tasted. It was true Italian brick oven pizza cooked to perfection. We did stumble upon the market to pick up a few groceries for the cottage which was a good idea because we were able to pack snacks and sodas for our excursions.
Exciting Sites to see in Bermuda

The view atop the Gibbs Lighthouse, although we forgot to take a picture of the actual lighthouse.
The amazing underground caves found by two boys playing ball.

WOW, that looks so nice! 2 hrs from Philly is all really? WOw, i never knew that. You'll have to email me the details. John and i wanted to do a cruise for our tenth which is this Dec., but perhaps Bermuda is more affordable.
