It is truly amazing how fast time really does go, three years ago I was pregnant with Mara and Don was just graduating his residency program from Drexel and signed contracts on his 3 year fellowship at UMDNJ for Gastroenterology....Now it is three years later and I am pregnant again with our third baby and Don is signing contracts for a position as a GI attending at UMDNJ. He is so proud to be joining the GI group there and we are all so proud of him too. Tomorrow he goes to get his pictures taken with the group and gets to wear his new white coat. It's pretty funny how much goes in to wearing a white coat, but I can remember his very first one from LECOM and how excited he was to put it on and then he graduated Med school and got his long white coat which presents that you are a Doctor now and no longer a student. Then he got his white coat for his intern year, followed by his internal medicine white coat, followed by his fellowship white coats and now its finally complete and he will forever be in this white coat.
This will be the coat he wears during the next two years at least for his contract at UMDNJ with the group there and will be working out of the office in Washington Township.
I can't believe he is done in just four more days....Life will forever be stressful as a Doctor's wife, but hopefully not as stressful as a Resident's wife. Friday, he was hoping to be early and called at 2pm to say he had two ERCP's to do and they still weren't even scheduled so who knows what time he will get home. There goes dinner as a family and then you get the tears from the kids because Daddy won't be home and they have to go to bed without a goodnight kiss. Connor thinks he is big enough to stay awake and wait for him to get home, but we don't know when that will be so we have to settle for a goodnight kiss over the phone. There will still be many nights up ahead that may be long and late, but knowing that you are making the shots and are the sole provider for a patient just makes that day so much easier to get through. I know Don is great at what he does and he really cares for his patients, because even though he wasn't on call Saturday morning he still trucked back over to the hospital to make sure those two patients were doing okay and I'm sure that just makes him so much more the better man than any other doctor's who just would have put the on call doctor in his shoes. We are so happy for you to start your new position over at UMDNJ as a GI attending and know that you will be the one Doctor that everyone wants to see because the bottom line is that you really "DO CARE" about the patient and their well being. Congratulations Honey on a job well done and good luck in your new position on July 6th.
