It's working!

Yesterday, we went to Robin's for a long overdue playdate with Aaron and Kristen came with her kids too. The boys played outside for a while playing on the swings, catching worms, and playing with play doh. Samara just tagged along eating her snacks with total contemptment. When Ryan and Gianna got there they came inside and were all playing downstairs while us moms were upstairs chatting when all of the sudden we heard a screech followed by crying from downstairs. I went down stairs to find Ryan screaming because Connor had accidentaily hit his finger with the sword playing star wars and bruised his finger really bad. I'm sure it hurt a lot but boys will be boys and they get really rough when they start playing with their light savers and swords. I know Connor felt really bad for Ryan and he just sat on the couch staring around wondering if he was okay. We gave Ryan ice and after about 10 mins he was doing much better. Connor came upstairs and went over to Ryan and knelt down next to him and said, "Ryan, I'm really sorry, Do you forgive me?" I totally melted and almost started crying because after the last few weeks of getting him to understand that when something happens or you hit someone or do something bad you need to ask for forgiveness as well as giving an apology. He did this all on his own and I am so proud of him that he is listening to me and starting to understand what forgiveness is all about. I could tell that he felt much better and went back to running around and playing after Ryan accepted his apology and forgave him for the hit on the finger. I hope next time he is playing Star Wars he will think twice before wacking the sword at one of his friends and will be a little more cautious. I am just so happy that he used his "forgiveness" all on his own. It really does make a difference and I think it is good for the other kids to hear as well.
