My birthday Celebration, Apple Picking with the girls and the art of applesauce

On Thursday I celebrated yet another great year of life and it was a very relaxing day "all about me". Don't we all wish you were treated the way you are treated when it is your birthday. Everyday should be our birthdays. The kids actually listenend to me and I got my way all day long.

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!
It's my birthday it's my birthday it has finally come,
presents and cakes oh how much fun,
I've been waiting for this time all year,
it makes me smile and not shed one tear,
that's all I have to say,
Like I said before it's my birthday it's my birthday hip hip hooray!

My Presents

Don and I got into a little tiff on the way into the city last weekend and of course it was about directions and where to turn. The GPS is four years old and I never updated the maps and it always says "recaculating" or tells me to turn after I already passed the street. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this happen to but I can tell you it is super frustrating and even more frustrating with a back seat driver, aka, Don. So needless to say two streets before we arrive at the wedding that we are already late to I was super frustrated and basically told Don if he didn't like how I was driving then he could just get out and walk. He probably would have got there faster anyway....parking was a disaster and the streets were swarmed with cars and people. NO one warned us that we should have left almost 2 hours early to get somewhere that is literally 35 minutes away. So, assumming that Don already bought my present before this episode, because we all know how prompt he likes to be, I got a great present of a new GPS with LIFETIME MAPS! WOOHOO HONEY, THANK YOU! NOW LETS JUST HOPE I CAN FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.
This was a present from the kids that I actually bought for myself. It is a Posh Mommy necklace because I do feel that they think I am the bestest and most "POSH MOMMY" around. I know this isn't the best picture of it but it has all three names engraved with their birthstones on it.
Then Don says, "this isn't really for your birthday, but for us" a gift to take our family pictures. Which I love and have always wanted. Now since I have the new photo shop from picnik I can edit my own pictures and hopefully we can get a great family picture in the backyard this fall. I was really happy with my birthday this year and Don did a wonderful job picking out my presents and my delicious cake(Well it was Mara's idea, she said she wanted a chocolate cake)

Apple Picking at Moods Farm with the Girlies

I asked the workers at the farm market what apples are best for making applesauce and he said that out of what was able to be picked probably the "Cortland" apples, so here we have it a ton of Cortland apples and 12 jars of scrumptious applesauce. Now all I need is an immersion blender because it is super delicious but Connor and Mara think it is still too chunky. On the other hand, Me and Meggie think it is just Perfect.

The art of making Applesauce
Steps
1. Wash, Peel and Core apples.
2. Slice apples into quarters.
3. Place in a saucepan and barely cover with water.
4. Cook until soft.
5. Crush apples with a potato masher or blender
6. Taste and add sugar to liking if needed.
7. Funnel applesauce into jars.
8. Place jars into canning pot and boil for 10 minutes.
9. Let cool on a dish towel and good for 1 year on shelf.

Just another one of my favorite things about the fall!
