Happy Birthday to Mimi!

A Great Week with Mimi and Poppy
and a fun celebration
for Mimi's Birthday!

Mimi and Poppy were here for a week and we all had a great time hanging out together and celebrating Mimi's birthday. It was great to actually spend my Mom's birthday with her in person instead of over the phone or through a card. You often take for granted the little moments in life that just mean so much and having them here for her to be able to spend her special day with her kids and grandkids was a more than priceless gift, I"m sure!

So of course, our journey began with a great trip to the airport(ahpuert) as Connor calls it. I really need to record the way he says this before it is too late because the little voice just sounds so cute when he talks about going to the airport. Connor couldn't wait to pick up Mimi and Poppy so we left a little early and decided to surprise them at the gate exits since you are no longer allowed into the actual gate we got as close as possible. It was pretty funny that Mimi wasn't expecting us since we had just got off the phone with them and I told them I was going to leave in a few minutes. Mimi saw this little boy waving and saying hi and didn't even realize that it was Connor until I said " Mom, that's Connor" and what a shock that was to both of them. They were so excited to see all of us there. So since I wasn't allowed to drive a plane like Connor wanted me to do we got to watch some from the highway taking off, but he really does have a fascination with planes and airports. Hopefully soon enough we will be taking a trip to somewhere warm because it definitely ins't spring weather here just yet. One day we are wearing capris and the next day we have our winter jackets on.

We had a great time while they were here enjoying just everyday playing and being with everyone. Jess and the kids came over for dinner and Uncle Mike too. Connor loves playing with Peyton and Carson and we wish we all spent more time together. I'm sure as soon as school is out we will get many play dates and beach time together. Connor and Carson had a blast outside playing all by themselves which made me realize just how much they both are growing up. Our little babies don't need us to hold their hands anymore. Thank goodness for our fence that they are safe in the backyard.

We even got to have a more than special adult night out to celebrate Mom's birthday by taking her to El Vez which was such a great place to go in the city. We got fantastic make your own tacos with beef, shrimp and chicken, an appetizer of guacamole with smoked crabmeat and a yummy pitcher of Margaritas. This was the first time we actually all went out to dinner with out the kids in a very long time. It might have actually been the only time we ever did this, so I think we are going to have to make this a ritual of doing this for everyone's birthdays when Mom and Dad are in town. Don and I had fun too since we don't really go out all that often together unless we are doing a swap or actually have plans made in advanced. El Vez has a photo booth from the 1950's to get your pics taken so we got to get in a few smooches before we sat down. Of course our first picture didn't turn out because we forgot how fast these booths take a picture and we weren't seated and ready when we put the last dollar in the machine. Warning!!! Picture will take the second you put in the last dollar. It was cute and the little romantic and silly things in life are what makes for a fun and loving relationship. We can't wait to go back again and be silly with the kids. Don immediately thought that Connor would love it there.

The week went by so quick, but we were glad to have so much time together. Connor got to play all day Monday with Mimi and Poppy outside. They got some great pics of him playing bball outback. I made a super yummy carrot cake with butter creme icing and we celebrated by having Aunt Margaret, Uncle Carl, Aunt Marion and Uncle Walt over for a nice lunch and to sing Happy Birthday to Mimi. Connor was of course right there to blow out the candles.

Poppy and Mara got to share some special bonding during their visit too! Mara would rather be with a father figure any day of the week over a mother figure if she had a choice. If I am home and then Don walks in the door the crying starts and I am chopped liver. Same goes for if anyone is holding her and she sees Pop-Pop or Poppy around and I am not there she automatically wants to be picked up by them. I know my Dad had a great time playing and holding her when he was here visiting. We had a rough night on Monday and my mom and dad got a little taste of what it was like being married to a doctor who is on call. We were all woken up from 2:30 am to about 4:45 when Don finally realized they weren't going to leave him alone and he decided to just go in to work and take care of things himself. So, Poppy was so tired thinking he was just in a bad dream that he couldn't even get Mara dressed right. It was pretty funny seeing her onsie buttoned outside of her jeans. All in all, it was worth the good laugh and we all got lots of sleep the next night. I am counting down the days that the new fellows will start work in July and then Don will only be on call one week a month, YIPEE!
